SULPHUR, Okla. – Everyone in the community is invited to Fall Festival at Oklahoma School for the Deaf on Tuesday, October 31, featuring free trick-or-treating and hayrides. School organizations will charge reasonable fees for a Spookhouse, carnival games and concessions.
All activities will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at OSD located at 1100 East Oklahoma Avenue in Sulphur. OSD volunteers will help guests find free parking.
Staff and students have been working hard to finish the Little Village, which will be the setting for trick-or-treating during the Fall Festival. This permanent learning experience has 12 structures, including a school, store, bank and chicken coop with a rooster and hens. The goal is help students learn more about business, government and society.
“We are very grateful to the many area businesses that have donated to help with the construction, repairs and expansion of OSD’s Little Village,” Principal Chris Dvorak said. ”It gives us a fun, interactive way to introduce educational applications through play, which mimics real-life experiences. The activities can be as structured or flexible and creative as the kids would like them to be.”
Dvorak said that members of community may reserve the Little Village when it’s not in use by OSD classes.
OSD Secretary and Fall Festival Chair Sally Henry said, “Our Fall Festivals are always so much fun. We want to reach out and be involved in our community by sharing all the activities and enjoying this day with our friends and neighbors.”
“We also want those who are hearing to know more about Deaf Culture and American Sign Language because we all share the same community,” Dvorak added.
